I invited a friend of mine to try the game, he's completely new to strafejumping, but has done some surfing & bhopping in CS.

So I'll try to sum up some of the stuff he asked me / mentioned to me about the game (fresh perspective).

  1. How do I change my mouse sensitivity?
  2. I disabled the HUD how do I turn it back on - He was just randomly hitting keys
  3. Huh you can only vote no? Shouldn't voting yes make the vote go faster?
  4. There should be some kind of tool in the tutorials to explain the mouse angles / help you learn them
  5. You can talk to people through the console window (when game is minimized) - that's cool
  6. How do I play multiplayer, do I use the same game as for the singleplayer (he was confused by the shortcuts RIK vs RIKdev)
  7. This game needs models, but they don't need to be people. Cars would probably even work or people on skateboards, but there needs to be some kind of explanation why / how they move like they do.

First and foremost, see the roadmap... :D

I just love linking that :)

  1. Mostly the result of no UI.
  2. Randomly hitting keys isn't usually a good idea, but yeah, those could be unbound.
  3. No, the whole point is that it SHOULDN'T go faster. For the sake of people who are IN runs or alike. That's the whole reason it is like it is :)
  4. Roadmap.
  5. Yes.
  6. This IS sort of explained in the text block in the installer isn't it? +roadmap
  7. :D Will add plain boxes for circuit (also visible when not in circuit). Not sure what I want model-wise. +roadmap

Don't mean to sound like a douche with all the roadmap linking, but yeah.. :)

+ edited your post to numbered, easier to reply :D

... Read the title first and like.. "Newbie".. come on, you've been playing this sort of stuff for almost a decade, how can you consider yourself a "newbie".. :P

I suppose none of those were intended as actual questions or feedback, but more like talking to yourself when you're doing something.

Everybody keeps saying the name sucks.

Yes people tend to like to do that, without being able to come up with anything better themselves.

Well pretty sure there was a brainstorm with all sorts of names years ago. Anyway to give some constructive criticism it's the RIK part that's throwing people off. What is a RIK? Is that the dev's name? What does the name have to do with the game?

I'm not expecting you to change the name, but I thought I just be blunt and tell you the truth that everybody I've told about the game so far has been puzzled by the name.

Project and Trick, "combined" into Projectrik, capitalized as ProjectRIK and abbreviated as RIK, and opposed to PT or something.. and it's not R.I.K. either :P

But yeah, had that one round a few years ago with names. And then me+hupo settled on RIK in 2013 some time. I tried a massive brainstorming with people + some freelancer site even, some time in 2014 or so, like 500+ names or something. Still nothing better than RIK so far.

It was explained to me like "Project Trick" Which then when shortened and played with became ProjectRIK)

also, the abbrviation is PRIK not RIK, dunno what this guys on about ^^ (totally kidding please for the love of bewbs, use RIK)

You have to be a god damn retard to not understand where the name comes from.

Well thanks I guess :P

Hupo making new friends

I come from bhopping/surfing and trickjumping as a word isn't even a thing there. I guess if you played et/quake/warsow for ages it's more obvious. Even after having heard the name a lot of times I still had no clue tbh. Maybe more because I immideatly thought it must have been the devs name or something. I just thought i'd share my thoughts since i'm not from one of those games unlike probably most of you.

Though a name doesn't need to mean something ofc
