2 issues I ran into:

  • Views revert back to default sizes when you restart the application. (View sizes aren't saved)
  • Can't select textures from texture browser and MMB them. You need to apply them with ctrl + click first, then you can copy them with ctrl+MMB and then MMB everything else.

The hotkeys take some getting used to if you're switching from gtk radiant, but they do seem to be easier once you get the hang of it. Except that E is now merge instead of edges :D

The new room button is great and I'd suggest to just get rid of the make hollow button.

Yeah I'm aware of the first one. It's because saving settings is disabled atm, because the shortcut system in radiant would mess with some of my changes, will fix it up relatively soon though :)

I thought a bit about the 2nd one though, and it has both up and downsides imo. Like it is now, you can both use the texture view to add whatever texture to brushes, but have the MMB saved as another texture, which imo could handy at times, so not sure I wanna change that one.

Can't say I agree on the 2nd point. The texture view is what I normally use to "save" a previously used texture, with the added bonus that it saves way more than 1 texture :D

What do layers do?

You can save blocks to layers and show, hide or select them all.

For Example in Piercy-Stealth-Tribute I have the following layers:

  • Skybox - Whole skybox walls
  • Run 1 - The whole of run 1
  • Run 1 Color - Only the colour parts of run 1
  • Run 2 - The whole of run 2
  • ... repeat runX and RunX colour up to 7
  • Triggers

How i use it:

I generally turn off the visibility of the skybox (its a checkbox). This means i can hide them and when i select in the grid view i dont accidentally select the skybox.

I can then click a button to select any of the layers. For instance, I hadn't decided which run related to which colour. So by clicking run 1 colour, i can select all of the coloured parts of run 1. If i then apply a texture. The texture is applied to all of the coloured parts of run 1 and so on for each layer.

In Rudimentary i had several layers, Floor, Floor1, Floor2, Wall, Railing, Ramps. Again for the same reason that i could play with different texures without having to select them all one by one or editing the .map in a text editor.

Can have a look at his video for example usage: https://projectrik.com/tutorials/basic-timerun

Once I got used to the keys I realized how much easier they are. Also, I learned a lot of time saving features from the YouTube video.
